Tutorial feedback
23/2/2012
Done the prototype of interface.
data sources from

twitter dev

Keep everything dynamic - don't specify names or pages, but get the top 20
dynamically.
Design is OK - but not imaginative enough at the moment and references
printed visualisations too much.
tasks for this week:
to start off with, limit yourself to twitter, facebook and youTube.
1) register as developer for all the platforms you want to get data from.
2) try and find tutorials about using the APIs for each of the systems.
3) work though a tutorial for each
4) look at lots of visualisation examples!
http://eagereyes.org/ is a good starting point.

aim - to create a interactive infographic that presents complex information
in a way that is easier to iunderstand...etc.
Only one outcome.
Specify your data a bit more.
Needs to be fairly fast moving, perhaps:
What's trending on Twitter
how many online on FB and where

Project Outcome
Project Aim:
To create an interactive infographic that presents complex information in a way that is easier to understand, more memorable and more interesting. Infographic is a graphic visual representation of information, data and knowledge.
Project Outcomes:
1. An interactive web piece: vertical scrolling to get all the information on a single page
Width: 1000px
A toy: Growing Pie (How are you using your social networking on your mobile devices?) for the users to interact with.
2. This project will be accessed via browsers.

Data visualisation website.
be confident about your idea.
doesn't need to be a game, but could be something to explore.
Make use of network datafeeds rather than collecting the data yourself.
Tufte, E.R., 2001. The Visual Display of Quantitative Information Second.,
Graphics Press USA.
Fry, B., 2007. Visualising Data, Sebastopol: O’Reilly Media Inc.
For next week,
make some decisions about the extent of what you'll produce - 2 or 3
contrasting interactive visualisations
suggest some data sources as well.
